Sampling
The only way to confirm if a product contains asbestos is to sample and analyse the material by a NATA accredited and approval laboratory. We offer 24 hour turn around on urgent samples with a full laboratory report detailing the results and what type of asbestos is present.
Options for asbestos sampling is that we send a qualified Licensed Asbestos Assessor to site to take the sample for you or a sample can be dropped into our local office. Collecting a sample for asbestos identification involves taking safety precautions and must be handled with care.
Here is our step-by-step guide on how to take a sample:
- Ensure you are wearing a P2 safety mask, these can be brought at your local hardware store.
- Wet the material to supress any potential dust.
- Carefully collect a sample using hand tools only. A chisel and hammer are recommended for most situations. The recommend sample size is roughly the size of a 20c piece.
- Place the sample in a Ziplock bag, labelled with the correct property address and where the sample was taken from. Ensure to double bag the sample with a second Ziplock bag.
- After sampling, you should ensure to seal any broken edges or holes using a PVA glue or clear spray paint to encapsulate any potential dust fibres.
